The Stork.

Well, it took a solid month but, the stork finally arrived in my mountain town. I was relieved of my martiniza duties and tied it to a slightly budding tree. Winter is over.
So, why am I so glad to mark the change in seasons? In short, people. Like anywhere, during the winter people tend to stick inside, stay warm and generally let winter pass. That mentality is doubled when both your home and workplace are still cold enough to wear a jacket. But, now we have a new ball game. People are about. And it is nice to see life again in the cafes and parks.
Another spring bonus is the fruits and vegetables. My bazaar, where I do most of my shopping, was fairly pitiful during the winter. Generally we had: potatoes, garlic, carrots, onions, and apples – anything else had been pickled and canned during the fall. Now, I walk past fresh spinach, lettuce, tomatoes, peppers, and kiwi – with more on the way I am sure. With all this freshness comes a new problem. My refrigerator has finally broken, not surprising since it sounded like a pickup truck when it was working. And, without the cold weather, this puts a new twist on cooking. What I have been doing is cooking something during the day and eating it for both lunch and dinner. It works and I am already getting used to it. Well, kind of getting used to it.
With spring comes something else here in Bulgaria. The beach. Ya, that’s right. Pretty soon, I will be heading off to the Black Sea resorts to soak in some sun and play in the sea. Needless to say, I am excited. They are supposed to be beautiful and an absolute blast.
Well, that is all I can think of for now. Hope everyone is thawing out properly,
Mark
